Laboratory Measurement of Geophysical Properties for Monitoring of CO2 Sequestration
نویسنده
چکیده
Both seismic and electrical properties depend on the mineralogical composition of the rock, porosity, fluid content, and in situ stress state. Previous work on effects of CO2 on seismic velocities is limited. Wang and Nur, 1989, measured both compressional (Pwave) and shear (S-wave) velocities on a number of sandstones saturated with nhexadecane and then flooded with CO2. They made measurements at different pore pressure and temperature conditions, finding that CO2 caused P-wave velocities to substantially decrease under all conditions while S-wave velocities were decreased at high pore pressure and increased at low pore pressures. Wang et al, 1998, found that both Pand S-wave velocities decreased in a carbonate rock when CO2 was injected at pore pressures from 1200 psi to 2600 psi.

Sequestration of CO2 in a Depleted Oil Reservoir: An Overview
Geologic sequestration of CO2 in depleted oil reservoirs, while a complex issue, is thought to be a safe and effective carbon management strategy. This paper provides an overview of a NETLsponsored R&D project to predict and monitor the migration and ultimate fate of CO2 after being injected into a depleted oil reservoir as part of a micropilot scale field experiment. The Queen Formation sandst...

Amine-modified mesoporous SBA-15 adsorbent has been prepared by impregnation method using tetraethylenepentamine. The samples of this modified SBA-15 have been characterized by small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherm and FT-IR. The adsorption capacity of CO2 on unmodified and modified samples were measured at high pressure...
متن کاملGeothermal Potential Assesment of Way Ratai Area Based on Thermal Conductivity Measurement to Measure Thermal Properties of Rocks
Thermal conductivity measurements have been used for the Way Ratai geothermal prospect area. The thermal conductivity method is used to evaluate the ability of a rock to deliver heat by conduction. In the area, many surface manifestations are scattered in various regions, where hot springs dominate these various manifestations. The thermal conductivity mapping of rocks is carried out around geo...
متن کاملTemporal Integration Of Seismic Traveltime Tomography
Time-lapse geophysical measurements and seismic imaging methods in particular are powerful techniques for monitoring changes in reservoir properties. Traditional time-lapse processing methods treat each dataset as an independent unit and estimate changes in reservoir state through differencing these separate inversions. We present a general least-squares approach to jointly inverting time-varyi...
متن کاملCarbon Dioxide Sequestration: How Much and When?
Carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration has been proposed as a key component in technological portfolios for managing anthropogenic climate change, since it may provide a faster and cheaper route to significant reductions in atmospheric CO2 concentrations than abating CO2 production. However, CO2 sequestration is not a perfect substitute for CO2 abatement because CO2 may leak back into the atmospher...
